Dr. Pedro Llanillo from the University of Santiago and Paul Wachter from the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) carried out a campaign aimed at measuring the broadband albedo and collecting snow samples surrounding the Union Glacier Camp. These activities will facilitate further studies related to the reflectivity of the Antarctic snow. The campaign lasted from about 10 days in the southern Ellsworth Mountains on the broad expanse of Union Glacier; 3030 km from the southern tip of Chile and just about 1000 km from the South Pole. The campaign was carried out in close collaboration with the Chilean Antarctic Institute (www.inach.cl) and the Chilean Air Force (www.fach.cl). This was the fourth campaign of an USACH-led team in the area (prior campaigns took place in November-December 2012, November-December 2014, and November-December 2015).
